The cheapest short drama apps depend on how you watch

ShortMax showed the lowest clearly labeled US weekly pass in our check, while DramaBox showed a lower Membership amount without a public billing period. For patient viewers, ads and rewards can be cheaper than either. There is no honest permanent winner without a title, region and viewing schedule.

Prices use different currencies, billing periods and account offers. The table records what the public source displayed; it is not a normalized price ranking.

Cheapest choice by viewing pattern

One short series

Use free openings first, then compare the smallest coin route with one week of access. A subscription is wasteful if the title is excluded or you will not finish before renewal.

Several series in seven days

A clearly labeled weekly pass can win. Build a watchlist before subscribing and cancel renewal immediately if you only want one billing period.

Casual viewing with no deadline

Ads, check-ins and reward coins are the lowest cash-cost route. The tradeoff is time, daily limits and the risk of reaching the ending slowly.

Frequent viewing all month

Compare a monthly plan with four weekly renewals and confirm catalog coverage. A lower weekly sticker price may become the more expensive monthly habit.

Six app price snapshots

#1

A planned one-week binge

ShortMax

Weekly Pass Pro $9.99 or $19.99; one-time purchases $3.49–$24.99

Among the US storefronts checked, ShortMax displayed the lowest clearly labeled weekly pass at $9.99. That can be economical when the selected pass includes the titles you want and you finish them inside one billing period.

Before paying: The store also displayed $19.99 weekly tiers. Confirm which pass is selected, what it unlocks and the renewal price before paying.

Free route: Opening episodes, ad rewards and promotional check-ins provide limited free progress.

#2

Viewers who verify the membership period

DramaBox

Membership offers from $5.99 to $19.99; special offers from $4.99

DramaBox showed the lowest dollar-denominated membership amount in this snapshot, and the developer says a subscription unlocks the full app catalog. That could beat coins for a complete story.

Before paying: The public storefront labels these purchases as Membership without exposing the billing period. A $5.99 amount cannot be compared fairly with a labeled weekly or monthly plan until checkout shows the duration.

Free route: Opening episodes, task rewards and ad-supported unlocks are available, but the time required varies by title.

#3

UK viewers who receive the £5.99 tier

GoodShort

Weekly VIP £5.99, £14.99 or £19.99; coin packs £2.99–£24.99

GoodShort displayed a low weekly entry point and a wide range of coin packs. It may suit a reader who wants to finish one adaptation quickly or make a small one-time purchase.

Before paying: These are UK prices in pounds and should not be ranked directly against US dollar offers. Multiple weekly tiers also mean eligibility and inclusions may differ.

Free route: The official listing advertises daily check-in rewards; ads and opening episodes can reduce—but not eliminate—the paid portion.

#4

Occasional viewers buying only a few unlocks

ReelShort

VIP plans $19.99–$199; coin packs $1.99–$50

ReelShort's own August 2026 guide says occasional viewers can buy coins or earn them through check-ins, social tasks and ads. A small pack may cost less than a subscription when only a short locked section remains.

Before paying: The cheapest coin pack is not the cost of a complete series. Count every remaining paid episode and compare that total with the applicable VIP offer.

Free route: Opening episodes, daily check-ins, ads and reward coins provide a slower free path.

#5

Selected titles available on the official website

FlexTV

Weekly VIP $29.99; Monthly VIP $49.99; one-time purchases $4.99–$29.99

FlexTV is not the lowest subscription in this snapshot, but its official website promotes selected free full episodes. Checking the browser catalog first can reduce the cost to zero for the right title.

Before paying: Not every web title is free. If the desired series requires VIP, the displayed weekly and monthly prices sit at the premium end of this group.

Free route: The official site promotes free full episodes, while the apps also use ads and paid access; availability differs by title.

#6

Patient viewers using ads and official web episodes

MoboReels

Weekly VIP $29.99; Monthly VIP $49.99; coin packs $9.99–$49.99

MoboReels exposes opening episodes, ad unlocks and browser title pages. It can be cost-effective when a viewer is willing to progress slowly instead of treating the $29.99 weekly tier as the default route.

Before paying: Some reviews report confusing finale access and VIP coverage. Verify the final episodes of the selected series before assuming a subscription unlocks everything.

Free route: Opening episodes and ad unlocks are available; user reports indicate that some finales may still require paid access.

A worked example: why the smallest pack may cost more

Imagine a 70-episode story gives you the first 10 episodes free. The remaining 60 episodes cost 50 coins each, so the locked portion requires 3,000 coins. If a $9.99 pack contains 1,000 coins, the real coin cost is three packs, or $29.97—not $9.99. If episodes become more expensive near the ending, the total rises again.

Now compare a hypothetical $19.99 weekly pass. It wins only when the pass includes all 60 locked episodes and you can finish before renewal. If the series is excluded, if premium finales still require coins, or if you forget to cancel for a second week, the apparent saving disappears. This is why ReelPulse keeps editable inputs in the calculator instead of publishing one fixed cost per app.

Free rewards have an equally real time cost. Suppose daily ads and check-ins earn enough currency for three episodes. Unlocking 60 episodes would take roughly 20 days if the reward rate and episode price stay constant. That route costs no cash, but it may require dozens of ads and repeated daily visits. Some viewers will reasonably choose it; others will value one uninterrupted evening more.

Four pricing traps to check before subscribing

The billing period is missing

A storefront may say Membership without saying weekly, monthly or yearly in the public list. Do not treat the amount as comparable until the confirmation screen exposes the duration and renewal date.

Several plans share one name

GoodShort and ShortMax displayed multiple weekly tiers. A lower tier may be promotional, account-specific or different in coverage. Record the exact offer selected, not the lowest amount visible elsewhere on the page.

The title is not included

VIP language can sound universal while a specific release, finale or premium tier follows different rules. Open the title and check its locked episodes before assuming a pass removes every payment.

Renewal changes the comparison

One week is not a monthly price. Compare four renewals with a monthly offer and use the subscription-management screen to cancel immediately when the plan is intended for a single binge.

How to calculate the real cheapest option

Count the locked episodes. Do not price the whole season from its total episode count because opening episodes may already be free. Check whether later episodes require the same number of coins.

Calculate enough full packs. If the story needs 2,100 coins and a pack contains 1,000, two packs are not enough. The unused balance in a third pack is still part of the cash cost.

Compare time as well as money. Ads and check-ins reduce cash spending but may require days of daily activity. Decide what an hour of ads is worth to you before calling a path free.

Treat renewal as part of the price. A $9.99 week becomes $39.96 over four renewals. Cancel through Apple or Google subscription settings if you only planned one binge week.

The ReelPulse coin calculator accepts separate assumptions for two apps, so you can enter the actual offers on your screen rather than applying one platform's coin math to another.
